The Terrace Bluebacks hit the pool for their first swim meet of the season, taking fourth place at the Prince Rupert Rapids’ October invitational.
Eleven Bluebacks participated, bringing in three medals, in an event that hosted eight teams in Prince Rupert Oct. 21-23.
In the girl’s 10 and under, Ainslie Hollett earned a silver medal. In the boy’s 10 and under, Brayden Phillips took home a bronze as did Caleb McGrath Burke in the 13-14 boy’s category.
In another feat for the Bluebacks, head coach Nesia Bare said Phillips, Hollett and Bethany Burnet all hit their first “A” time, which moves them one step closer to provincials.
It is a big thing for an eight, 10 and 11-year-old, Bare explained.
Some of the Bluebacks also earned personal best swim times – in total 70 per cent of the team managed to best a previous swim.
Thomas Christensen and Hollett did even better than that, scoring 100 per cent personal best times on every swim.
Bare also noted that Cameron Chanin had a great swim meet with 90 per cent best times.
“Getting best time at the start of the season is hard, because your best times came from the end at the season, which is your peak time,” Bare said.
The next swim meet of the Bluebacks will be in Prince George Nov. 19.
