Terrace teams showing strong at minor hockey provincials

Three Terrace minor hockey teams are competing at provincial championships this week, and two days in they are nearly all undefeated, collectively outscoring their opponents 63 – 14.

Terrace Bantam Reps

The Bantam Reps faced off against the home team West Kelowna on Sunday for their first game of the tournament, winning 11 – 1.

West Kelowna opened up the scoring at the 18:24 mark of the first period with a marker from Avery Trenton-Smith assisted by Jordon Woytas. Goal scorers for Terrace were Sam Reinbolt with three goals and two assists, Gianni Cormano with three goals, Mason Richey with a goal, Jayson Kawinsky with a goal, Nicholas Nordstrom with three goals and two assists. Assists also went to Clayton Rose, Terrence O'Brien, Austen McKean, and Brandon Onstein.

And yesterday saw the Bantams up against Whitehorse for the first game of St. Patrick's Day, a strong showing by both teams that saw Terrace win 8 – 4.

Terrace opened the scoring up on a goal by Gianni Cormano assisted by Nicholas Nordstrom. Other first period scoring for Terrace came from Mason Richey assiste by Terrence O'Brien and Sam Reinbolt, Jayson Kawinsky assisted by Gianni Cormano and Austen McKean, Mason Richey assisted by Terrence O'Brien. Whitehorse was up on the board at the 1:00 mark on a goal from Bryc Anderson assisted by Gavin Lawrie.

Second period scoring for Whitehorse came from Johnny Elias assisted by Bryce Anderson and Niall Lawrie as well as a goal from Joseph Stokes assisted by Matthew Cooper and Kaine Comin. Terrace markers in the second period came from Nicholas Nordstrom assisted by Sam Reinbolt and Jayson Kawinsky assisted by Austen McKean and Gianni Cormano.

Terrace added a couple more goals in the third period coming from Gianni Cormano assisted by Jayson Kawinsky and Nicholas Nordstrom and Mason Richey assisted by Austen McKean.

Today, the team meets Sunshine Coast and they'll face off against Alberni first thing tomorrow morning.

Terrace Midget Female Reps

In Salmon Arm, Terrace's Midget Female reps faced off against Surrey for their first game of the tournament on Sunday, winning by two, 6 – 4.

This game was scoreless for most of the first period with end to end play. The first goal of the game was by Myah Bowal from Breanna Uphill. At 13:48 of period two Terrace came on strong scoring four goals. Bailey Kasum scored the second goal unassisted. Ashley Kuehne scored the next two goals at 9:40 and 6:36 both unassisted. Uphill scored at 5:18 from Kasum to finish the period.

Surrey started a comeback in the third with two goals from Natalie Richardson, 15:33 from Caleigh MacDonald and 12:39 from Ashley Long. Terrace got one more goal at 8:30, Bowal from Uphill and Surrey answered with two more goals at 2:02 from Long and 1:04 from Alyssa Dawidziak both unassisted. Shots on goal were Terrace 20 and Surrey 36.

And yesterday they were up against North Island, a tight match that saw the Terrace team fall 3 – 2.

The first period saw chances for each team, but remained scoreless.

In the second the North Island team scored three goals to pull away but in the third the Terrace team rallied to close the gap, scoring one goal.

Scoring for North Island in the second was Erin Murdoch at 16:37 from Marijke Campbell, Ashley Penney at 14:39 from Brittney Savard and Tianna Squire and Lisa Lloyd at 4:45 from Penney.

In the third Terrace's Ashley Kuehne scored at 11:56 from Deborah Wraight and Myah Bowal at 2:03 from Bailey Kasum. Shots on goal were close, 30 for North Island and 28 for Terrace.

Today, the team is up against the Richmond Ravens, tomorrow they'll face Cranbrook and Thursday sees them meet the hometeam, Salmon Arm.

Terrace Midget Tier 3

In 100 Mile House, the Terrace Midget Tier 3 Reps are currently undefeated, winning all three of their games so far and outscoring their opponents 36 – 2.

The first game on Sunday saw them up against Castlegar, winning 16 – 1. The team was back at the arena later that day to meet the hometeam, 100 Mile House. Terrace proceeded to shut them out with a convincing 14 – 0 win.

And yesterday saw them up against Alberni Valley, a tough team that put up a good fight, making the Terrace boys work. The game felt a lot closer than the 6 – 1 win for Terrace. Terrace scored 20 seconds into the game and later would give up the one goal against to a penalty shot.
