Mechanical problems shut down Terrace B.C. ski hill

Skiers will have to wait until next Friday to hit the hill after My Mountain Co-op announced today that Shames Mountain is closed for the rest of the weekend and Monday.

"An electric motor involved in the running of the chairlift suffered a breakdown on Friday afternoon which has turned out to be more serious than first thought," said a release from the group in the early afternoon of Feb. 22.

Terrace Rewind Ltd. was called out to repair the motor but couldn't get it to work so it will be brought to town for repair, necessitating the shutdown of the hill for the remaining three days of this operational week, said the release.

"We anticipate that Shames will be open again for business on Friday, February 28th as usual. We apologize for this interruption of service and thank all the members and riders for their patience and understanding," continued the release.
