Northwest Invitational Gymkhana rides this weekend
The Northwest Invitational Gymkhana, a speed race with horses, will be held in Terrace this weekend.
The annual end-of-season equestrian event sees the top two riders from each age from each town face off in teams of 12. Riders from Terrace, Fraser Lakes, Houston and Smithers are expected to compete in the weekend-long event that is open to the public.
“It's the best of the best,” says organizer Danita Petch of the race-against-the-clock event, which Terrace has won for a number of years.
She is inviting people to come to the fairgrounds starting at 11 a.m on Saturday for the team event and at 9 a.m. on Sunday for the “Sarah Ridler Memorial Ride”, a ride in honour of Ridler, a young horse-lover and rider who died tragically in 2007.
There will also be a jackpot race and a dash for cash on the Sunday and it is a chance to see riders and horses dressed to impress.
