Ladies sweep away Valentines Bonspiel
With the largest participation numbers in six years, the Ladies Valentine’s Bonspiel had 26 rinks vying for the top spot this year Feb. 10-12 in Terrace.
“It was so successful ... we had great support form the community,” said chair of the event Kathie Simpson. She said part of the incredible attendance was a good turnout of teams from out of town.
“We had eight teams from out of town, thanks to Kitimat and Prince Rupert,” Simpson said.
The final game for the A event was a family affair, won by the Kucharyshen rink from Prince Rupert. Mother Joan Kucharyshen was joined by her two daughters, Rebecca and Jody, along with Jordan Sparks.
The B event was won by the Copeland Rink, with Margaret Copeland, Kathie Simpson, Liz Smaha and Lynne Gunter on the winning team.
The C event was won by the Bullied rink, which consisted of Lisa Bullied, Nancy Reniero and Vivian Raposo,
The D event was won by the Griffith rink, with Sylvia Griffith, Theresa Melanson, Kelly Salenback and Joanne Preece on the team.
The bonspiel was hosted with the theme of love and teams dressed up in all sorts of costumes to reflect that.
Next for the Terrace Curling Club will be the Men’s Loggers Bonspiel, held Match 23 - 25 at the Terrace Curling Rink.
