Annual charity match continues support for Terrace minor sports
This year’s Guns and Hoses was another success, says organizer Jeff Minhinnick from the Terrace Professional Firefighters.
The game, which sees local RCMP officers facing off against firefighters, came to a 4-1 outcome with the firefighters taking the win, and the event raising more than $6,000 for a good cause.
About 500 people came out to support the game, which donated all of its proceeds to the Terrace branch of Jumpstart - a program that helps children with
equipment costs and enrolment fees in local sports.
The $6,000 donation now brings the Guns and Hoses hockey matches to more than $21,000 raised in three years.
“We have been pretty happy with the constant community support,” Minhinnick said, of the many sponsors and volunteers who donated their time and money to the event.
He said, to date, the Jumpstart program in Terrace has helped 370 children get involved in sports in the area.
“The program is working,” Minhinnick added, saying he only hopes attendance at the games, and money raised, continues to grow each year.
The Terrace River Kings also lent support for the game, helping out with tickets and security.
