Peter Raymond (Teddy) SQUIRES

“Wilp’s Baxk’ap”

October 26, 1943 - August 8, 2006

Teddy passed away peacefully at Mills Memorial Hospital at the age of 63. Teddy was born in Prince Rupert to Walter and Lucille Squires (nee Nyce).

Teddy is survived by: his loving wife of forty two years, Jeanette (nee Azak), his children: Peter Norman (Lynn Siwallace); Morris Craig; Loreen Lucy (Trevor Azak); Carol Ruth (Vern Evans) and the grandchildren he felt truly blessed with and loved dearly: Calista and Alberta Evans, Raymond, Keisha and Iris and great grand-son Lamar; Teddy’s brothers and sisters: William (Clara); Irene Seguin (Pat); Maurice (Jeanette Costello); Donald (Val); Lorna G Azak (Alvin); Leonard (Carol) and Margaret (Glen Wallington), Uncle, Baxk’ap Jacob Nyce, Aunt Peggy, and numerous extended family from the Wolf, Eagle, Killerwhale and Raven clans from the Nisga’a, Haisla and Tsimpshian Nations.

Teddy was an outdoors man and spent many hours with his family and friends doing his favorite things: fishing, hunting and picking mushrooms. He took every opportunity to involve his family so he was often accompanied by his grandchildren.

Teddy had a deep love for his family, the Village of Gitwinksihlkw and the Nisga’a Nation. Teddy did all he could to make the Nass Valley a better place by serving on numerous boards and committees: Nisga’a Lisims Government (2nd Speaker of the House); Gitwinksihlkw Village Government (was serving his fourth term as Councillor for Village Government); School District # 92 Nisga’a (past Trustee); and Nisga’a Valley Health Board (Founding Board member and Chairman of the Board), Skeena Native Development Society Board Director, to name a few.

Teddy will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all those whose lives he touched.

So long Teddy, we know we will meet you on the other side.
