The world lost a good man on Friday, June 30th, 2006. Joseph Frank Flegel passed away peacefully at home at the age of 85 with 3 generations of his loving family at his side. Joe will be remembered for his humor, wisdom and laid back nature.
Joe was born on October 25th, 1920 in Mariahilf District, Saskatchewan. He grew up on the family farm with his brothers and sisters. Joe served in the Army from 1942 until 1945. After marrying his wife, Annie, they moved to the
Okanagan Valley where they started their family. In 1954, Joe and his family
moved to Kitimat, B.C. where he worked for Alcan. He retired in 1983 at the age of 63. In 1986, Joe and Annie moved to Terrace where they enjoyed their retirement years.
Joe was a family man and always welcomed the laughs his grandchildren, and
later, great grandchildren provided. Joe became an avid golfer and curler in his
retirement.
Joe was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Annie, who left his side in 1993, and son-in-law, Rob Myers, in 2001. He was also predeceased by his sister, Mary Horning (brother-in-law, Joe Horning), brother, Adam (sister-in law, Anne
Flegel) and sister-in-law, Martha Flegel. He is survived by his children; Richard
(Wendy) Flegel, Dennis Flegel, Linda Myers, daughter-in-law Mary Lou Flegel,
grandchildren; Cindy (Harry), Shane (Robyn), Brandi (Bill), Lori (Bruce), Trent,
Jodi, Kyle (Tran), great grandchildren; Ashley, Brianna, Tyler, Jared, Trevor, Bryce, Jake and Nicholas, sisters; Theresa (Otto) Graf, Anne (Tom) Pfliger, Julia (Larry) Dietrich and Matilda (Richard) Balch and brother John (Bev) Flegel.
Joe’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the emergency nurses
and homecare nurses that cared for him in his final weeks. Their compassion
and support is greatly appreciated.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 7th, 2006 at the Sacred Heart Parish in Terrace, B.C.
