Janet (Jan) A D'Amours

1939 - October 4, 2017

Janet (Jan) A D'Amours passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on October 4th, 2017 at her home in Smithers, BC.

She is survived by her sons Scott (Anita) of Sydney Australia and Darcy (Kris) of Abbotsford BC; grandchildren Colin, Jenna, and Hugo; close cousins Diane Linda and Roger Park of Calgary; her husband Rodger, more cousins throughout BC & Alberta and a great many good and long-time friends in the Bulkley Valley and throughout western Canada. Jan is predeceased by her mother Jan MacKinnon of Terrace.

Jan was born in Edmonton Alberta in 1939 to Jan and Graeme MacKinnon. She spent her younger years mainly in the Edmonton and Wells/Barkerville areas before moving to Terrace with her mom in the early 1950's. After completing her business accounting studies in Calgary, she returned to BC where she married and started her family. Settling in Smithers in 1969 with her two young boys she met and married Rodger D'Amours who became Dad to her boys.

Jan's career settled mainly into business accounting but despite being busy with this and a young family, volunteering became a bigger part of her life. Jan was a member of the Smithers Order of the Royal Purple for more than 40 years and remained very active with this group as a volunteer and executive member throughout her adult life.

Jan had a great many friends in the Smithers area and from around BC. These friends were a wonderful source of happiness for her. She also had a fantastic group of regular local and travelling visitors who would stop by for a quick visit, a cup of coffee and one (or three) bites of Jan's homemade goodies.

We are so grateful to have had her with us for the many years that we did and those memories remain strong. We are especially thankful for all of her wonderful friends who were so important to her and have been so thoughtful and kind with their offers of condolences, telephone calls and recent visits with us.

We cannot thank you enough for your thoughts, prayers and hugs. Mom- we will miss your unwavering support, your kindness and generosity but mostly we and your grandchildren will just miss you.

A memorial service will be held at the Pioneer Place Seniors' Activity Centre, 4018 Mountainview Drive Smithers, BC on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 2 pm. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Smithers Order of the Royal Purple, to help endow an ongoing bursary in Jan's name to a deserving graduating student of the high school who demonstrates both aptitude in their chosen field of study but especially the qualities of generosity and of giving back to the community that were such a big part of Jan's life.

Scott, Anita and Hugo, Darcy, Kris and Colin, Jenna.
