Ernest Wolfgang Walter Fricke

May 15 1936 - August 24 2005

Ernest (whom we all know as Red), was born in Celle, Germany on 15 May 1936, the only child of Elsa and Walter Fricke. At the tender age of two, Red lost his mother. As a result he was raised by his Uncle Robert and Aunt Ida and his cousin Ewald whom he thought of as a brother.

In 1956 Red decided to emigrate to Canada. He loved and embraced the country and took it as his own. As soon as it was possible he became a Canadian citizen. Not long after, he met his reason for being. Her name is Shirley. They were married in 1961. Through tough times and good times, they created their own special world.

Red worked hard throughout his life but also took time to relax and enjoy. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, and outdoorsman, but his passion was golf. Since his retirement, his time spent on the golf course with his friends was the highlight of his week.

The anguish his family feels at his sudden and unexpected passing is indescribable.

Left behind are his wife Shirley, son Walter, daughter Loretta (Lewis), grandchildren Sean and Ryan, his family in Germany: Erika, Bernd, Martina, Lisa, many in-laws, a lot of friends, and Mickey, Red and Shirley’s beloved dog.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Terrace Hospice Society would be appreciated. The address is 207-4650 Lazelle Avenue, Terrace BC V8G 1S6.

Red’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone that has been so kind, thoughtful and supportive.
