Elio Bomben was born on December 22, 1934 in Zoppola, Italy to Felix and Irma Bomben. He was the baby in the family of 5 children. Siblings: Meri, Rina, Neli and Bruno.

Elio spent his childhood in Italy but after hearing many stories from their father about his adventures in Prince Rupert during the early 1900's, Bruno and Elio decided to follow their father's footsteps. They travelled to Prince Rupert1955 and started a new life.

Elio returned to Italy to marry his sweetheart, Lucianna (Lucy) Violin in San Vitto, Italy on January 19, 1957 and they immigrated to Canada shortly afterwards. They were married for 59 years.

They raised three loving sons, Franco (Milli), Walter (Elisa) and Sandro. Elio loved fishing, hunting, and camping with "his boys" throughout the years. Later when his sons married he welcomed their spouses into the family with an open heart.

He was a mason at Skeena Cellulose Pulp Mill in Prince Rupert for 23 years and retired in 1987. He moved to Terrace to enjoy his retirement by the Skeena River with Lucy. In his retirement, he pursued his passions of photography, astronomy, trap shooting, and gardening. He volunteered at the Rod & Gun clubs in Prince Rupert and Terrace and at the Deep Creek Fish Hatchery.

To his grandchildren and great grandchildren he was "Nonno" who loved telling them ghost stories and tickling them. Elio loved to put his grandbabies to sleep by rubbing their foreheads, all7 of them: Neil (April), Shauna (Ben), Kristen, Trevor (Marissa), Michael, Nathan (Caitlin), and Brittany. He later carried on the traditions with his great grandchildren: Noah, Oliver, Lucas, Kenzie and Leo.

Family was always most important to Elio and he loved to cook for large gatherings of the whole Bomben family which often included Bruno, Ermy and their children and grandchildren. Elio was a big strong man with a big heart that we all felt was the rock of the family. Family was always important to him and he was always there to help us and to support us. Elio passed away on October 14, 2016 with family near his side.

There will be no memorial or funeral as per Nonno's wishes.

The family will have a private gathering at a future date to celebrate his memory.
