The Tooms family lived in Montreal, Ocean Falls and Kitimat before settling in Terrace, where Rob graduated from Caledonia High School in 1973. Rob received his Bachelor of Science and his M.B.A. from U.B.C. and soon after, began his career with the Royal Bank of Canada. Rob worked for the R.B.C. in Vancouver and in London, Ontario before moving to Kamloops to serve as the Vice-President of Commercial Financial Services for the B.C. Interior.

Rob was predeceased by his father David Brian Tooms in 1989 and his mother in law Lorraine Smyth in 2011. Rob is also survived by his mother Claire Chesley (Don), his brothers Martin (Terry), Nick (Robin) and Roger (Cheryl), his brothers in law Clint (Aileen), Brett (Tilda), Kevin (Jen), Greg (Tracy), Drew (Mary), sister in law Karen (John), father in law Don Smyth , eleven nephews, ten nieces and two great nephews.

Rob loved to fish, golf, workout and travel. Most of all, he cherished his time with his wife, Chris. She was the Love of his Life and inspired him to greater things than he might otherwise have accomplished. They loved to travel and enjoyed nine cruises together, visiting exciting cities around the world and making many new friends at the same time.

Due to Chris’ 1992 successful battle with a brain tumour, Rob volunteered as a Director for the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and the Kamloops Brain Injury Association.
