Allan Cameron Sr.

April 1, 1939 – May 25, 2011

With his family at his side, Allan passed away in Mills Memorial Hospital in Terrace on the morning of May 25, 2011. At the age of 72, he was unable to overcome post-surgery complications.

Allan was born on April 1, 1939 in Chilliwack BC. In 1962 he married Vivian Cameron, and the couple moved to Terrace to begin a career in teaching and start a family. By 1968, Allan was a proud and dedicated father of three; a son, Allan Jr, and two daughters, Alanna and Carmie. Allan and his family spent the next several years camping, fishing, and enjoying the simple things in life. In 1973, they purchased property in Rosswood, BC and it was there that the family worked together to build a home that Allan often referred to in later years as “paradise”.

In 1995 Allan married his second wife, Francisca Cameron (Pakki), who immigrated to Canada from Mexico, and the couple lived happily in the home Allan and his family had built in Rosswood.

Allan had an amazing spirit. He loved to laugh and loved others to laugh with him. His honesty, integrity and sincere compassion were second to none and he forgave without hesitation. Allan made every effort to instill a strong sense of pride in his children and in the students he taught, and he truly enjoyed their successes. In his view, giving up was never an option. “You can’t keep a good man down” was a phrase Allan used often.

Allan is survived by his wife, Francisca Cameron, by his son, Allan Cameron Jr and his wife, Terri Cameron, and their three sons, Tyler, Colby and Corey, by his daughter Alanna Cameron and her four children, Ryland, Konnor, Shawnel and Terrence, and by his daughter Carmie Flaherty and her husband Wade Flaherty, and their two children, Jordyn and Gavin. Survivors also include his sisters, Nancy Langdale and Anne Leaney, and their families.

A memorial service will be held at the Knox United Church at 4907 Lazelle Avenue in Terrace on June 1st at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the “Al Cameron Trades Scholarship Award” c/o the Northwest 88 Foundation, 3211 Kenney Street, Terrace BC, V8G 3E9.

Allan loved deeply, and was deeply loved. He will be sadly missed by many.
