A YOUTH who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the stabbing death of his mother nearly three years ago received a two-year sentence in Supreme Court last week.
The teen, who was 15-years-old at the time of the stabbing in September 2008, cannot be named or identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Mr. Justice Frits Verhoeven handed the now 18-year-old a 24 month sentence, which includes four months in custody and 20 months of supervision in the community.
His decision came on the third day of the sentencing hearing for the youth, which was held here.
On Sept. 27, 2008 around 11:15 p.m., RCMP arrived at a Terrace residence to find a woman bleeding profusely from multiple stab wounds, said police at that time.
Paramedics took her to Mills Memorial Hospital where she died after efforts to revive her were unsuccessful, said police.
Officers later arrested a youth, police said.
