Terrace man found dead

A Terrace man was found dead in the Union Inlet outside of Prince Rupert late last week.

A POLICE investigation into the death of a Terrace man continues.

RCMP West Coast Marine Services and the Canadian Coast Guard located the body of Wolfgang Weidner and a partially submerged vessel in Union Inlet after being called out at about 9:10 a.m. July 20, reported Prince Rupert RCMP.

"It is with great sadness that we are having to inform the public of this incident, and our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic event,"  said Const. Matt Ericson, spokesman for Prince Rupert RCMP.

"At this stage of the investigation, it appears as though Mr. Weidner was the sole occupant in the vessel and no foul play is suspected."

In speaking with Weidner's friends, it appears as though he set out on a two to three day fishing trip to the area where he was located, and was expected to return the previous night, said police.

Prince Rupert RCMP ask anyone who may have information regarding this incident to contact the detachment at 250-627-0700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Crime Stoppers pays cash for information leading to an arrest. We don't want your name, just your information.
