Terrace Earth Day Garbathon a success

Volunteers estimated that there were around 100 people that participated this year

People in Terrace were busy collecting and hauling garbage from around the city and illegal dumping sites during a sunny 2021 Earth Day Garbathon on April 25.

Hosted by SkeenaWild Conservation Trust, this year’s garbathon was different than usual to ensure safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Geier Waste provided a dumpster and ABC Recycling supplied the event with a metal disposal container. Both were located at the George Little Park parking lot, where people dropped off garbage between noon and 4 p.m.

Volunteers working at the dumpsters estimated that there were around 100 people participating — fewer than usual but still a good turn out given the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Participants could enter to win prizes donated by SkeenaWild, Greater Terrace Beautification Society, Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine, Terrace Refillery, Uplands Nursery, Spotted Horse Nursery, Baker Extraordinaire, Canadian Tire and the City of Terrace.
