For the first time in at least a decade, Terrace's new year's baby is not one, but two.

Freya Heather Fehr and Hannah Kaylynn Fehr were born New Year's Day here at 4:58 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively, and weighed in at 6 lbs. 9 oz. and 6 lbs. 2.5 ounces, respectively, to parents Kirsten and Aaron Fehr.

The twin were expected to arrive on Christmas because twins are usually early, said Aaron.

“Kirsten's birthday is on the 19th so she didn't want their birthday that close to Christmas,” said Aaron, adding that the couple was glad to get through the busy season before the babies were born.

When it came to naming them, the whole family was involved.

“What we did was we were trying to find uncommon names so we had Hannah definitely as a name,” said Aaron, adding a list was made of names for Freya.

“As we got close to the due date, we started shortlisting.”

When people would ask about names, Kirsten shortened the shortlist even more and would tell people a couple of names: Freya and Emma and a couple of others, he said.

“It was just a matter of deciding between the two. Freya was a bit more unique and we like the meaning behind the name,” said Aaron.

For Hannah's middle name, the couple left it to Aaron's two teenage daughters, Kayla and Brooklynn, who combined their names to make Kaylynn.

Freya's middle name came from Aaron's late father, who liked the name Heather.
