Smithers man killed on highway east of Terrace

Highway patrol says weather was heavy rain at the time of the crash.

A 45-year-old man from Smithers, B.C. has died in a single vehicle motor vehicle collision that occurred in the early hours of this morning, July 18, on Hwy 16 about 12 km east of Terrace, reported West Pacific Region Traffic Services, also known as the highway patrol, today.

The Toyota Corolla was travelling east when it hit the westbound ditch and struck a tree at approximately 3:30 a.m. this morning, reported police.

"The driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle and was deceased at the scene. It was raining heavily at the time of the incident," said Cpl. Philip Crack of the highway patrol.

The highway patrol continues to investigate and Hwy 16 is open to single lane alternating traffic.
