CLIVE EVANS was sentenced to 12 days in jail with 12 months probation with conditions to follow for shoplifting after appearing in provincial court here Feb. 14.
On Feb. 13, police reported the arrest of a 51-year-old man for shoplifting at Save on Foods.
The man had been released from jail Jan. 29 on probation after serving a sentence related to thefts from grocery stores and assaulting store employees, the release said.
On March 10, 2010 Evans was sentenced on a charge of theft under $5,000 for items he took from Safeway and was granted time served for the time he spent in jail up to that point and given a one-year probation order with conditions.
On Feb. 17, 2011, Evans was sentenced to 16 months in jail for an assault charge, but given 58 days credit for time served, leaving him 427 days of jail time to serve and 18 months of probation.
Those theft and assault convictions came from an Aug. 4, 2009 incident in which Evans kicked a Safeway employee in the knee while attempting to flee after shoplifting groceries from that store.
The employee was off work for a lengthy time and underwent two surgeries and extensive rehabilitation.
And for a fraud charge that occurred while Evans was on bail during his court proceedings on the assault, he was sentenced to 90 days to run consecutively to the 427 days for the assault for a total of 517 days in jail.
His Jan. 29 release this year was after serving two-thirds of that his sentence, which is when most people in jail are released.
