MILLS Memorial Hospital in Terrace is going to be running on portable power generators beginning Sunday night until early Monday morning so that workers can update the facility’s electrical system.

“The controlled power shutdown will mean the hospital will have limited service capacity from Sunday, June 1, 2014 at 11:00 p.m. to Monday, June 2, 2014 at approximately 6:00 a.m.,” states a release from the Northern Health Authority.

Urgent needs will still be handled but some services will be affected.

Maternity services will be unavailable and women about to give birth will be transferred to Prince Rupert or Kitimat, said the release.

CT scans will not be available and patients requiring that service will be referred to Prince Rupert.

Not affected is the BC Ambulance Service at 9-1-1 and HealthLink BC at 8-1-1. The latter provides information from nurses, dietitians, and pharmacists 24 hours a day, seven days per week.
