Police seize five weapons; one was loaded

The Terrace RCMP have responded to approximately 148 calls for service from January 4, 8 AM till January 10, 8 AM.

The Terrace RCMP have responded to approximately 148 calls for service from January 4, 8 AM till January 10, 8 AM. During the same time period there have been 33 people lodged in Terrace Cells. Of these, 23 people were lodged for public intoxication.

Here are some of the calls responded to:

  • Police apprehended a suicidal 13 yr old girl under the Mental Health Act.
  • A brown 2005 Dodge Caravan was victim of a hit and run while parked at the Walmart Parking lot on January 4 at approximately 4 PM. There was moderate damage to the front quarter panel of the van.
  • A 7yr old girl wandered into the Copperside on Kalum St and informed staff that she had lost her mom. Police attended and while speaking with the girl outside the mother arrived. The girl had wandered away from a family dinner at Dairy Queen.
  • Report of a red mid-sized vehicle parked at the end of Gordon Dr with several occupants. Police located the red 2005 Pontiac Grand Am. Upon speaking with the occupants police smelt marihuana. The 18 yr old driver and two men, ages 21 and 20, were arrested for possession of a drug. An amount of drugs, drug paraphernalia, and alcohol were seized. The driver was issued a 24 hr driving suspension.
  • A 14 yr old girl out past her court ordered curfew. Police located the girl with a group of youth on Lakelse Ave / Kalum St. The girl fled. Police pursued the girl and eventually caught up with her and arrested her for breach of probation. The girl was intoxicated. Charges are being forwarded to Crown Counsel.
  • Disturbance in a room at the Costa Lessa. Police arrested an 18 yr old man who was hiding in the shower for mischief. The man was in breach of his probation conditions to not consume liquor and that he was not to be in the presence of a woman when he had consumed liquor within the preceeding 24 hrs. Charges of breach x 2 are being forwarded to Crown Counsel.
  • During routine patrol police observed a man passed out in a brown 2003 Honda Accord parked at Hwy 16 and Gossen Creek. The 53 yr old driver failed a roadside screening device. He was issued a driving suspension and the vehicle he was in was towed.
  • Police checked a green Mazda pickup truck on Park Ave near Kalum St at 9 AM on January 5, after it was noted to commit a number of vehicle infractions. The 50 yr old driver admitted to drinking the night before. He provided a breath sample on a roadside screening device that resulted in a warn. He was issued an Immediate Roadside Suspension and the vehicle he was driving was impounded.
  • Sometime during the night of January 4/5 vandals slashed the rear tires of a black 1993 GMC Jimmy parked on Loen Ave.
  • During a roadblock on Queensway Dr at Thornhill Creek police checked a blue GMC truck. The driver was unlicenced. The licence plate was inactive and belonged to a different vehicle that was registered to another person. Police arrested the 28 yr old driver for possession of stolen property. Charges are being forwarded to Crown Counsel.
  • A 69 yr old man lost control of his green 1997 Jeep Cherokee on Hwy 113. The vehicle hit snow on the side of the road and flipped onto its side. The driver was uninjured and refused medical treatment after being assessed by BC Ambulance. The vehicle was flipped right side up and was driven from the scene with minimal damage.
  • A man and woman were injecting drugs while parked at the Real Canadian Wholesale when the woman became hysterical and ran off. Police spoke with Walmart employees who stated that the woman had entered the store in an agitated state and was escorted out. Police located the 33 yr old woman outside of Walmart. BC Ambulance transported the woman to Mills Memorial Hospital. Drugs and a knife were seized from the woman’s possessions.
  • Police pulled over a green 2000 Ford F250 on Old Lakelse Lake Dr. The 45 yr old driver provided a sample of breath on a roadside screening device that resulted in a fail. The driver was issued an Immediate Roadside Suspension and the vehicle he was driving was impounded.
  • A 75 yr old man deceased on Straume Ave.
  • Vandals broke the passenger front window and rummaged thru the contents of a 1999 Cadillac Escalade left parked overnight at the Terrace Curling Rink on January 5/6.
  • Five youth loitering in the lobby of the Tim Hortons on Lakelse Ave and refused to leave when asked. The youth became belligerent and spit on the windows of Tim Hortons. Police located the youth and returned them to Tim Hortons where they cleaned up the window and agreed to be more polite and behave in a socially acceptable manner in the future.
  • A black 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck and a green 2013 Ford Pickup truck collided at the intersection of Hwy 16 East and Crescent Ave. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed. The 28 yr old driver of the black Ford and his 68 yr old passenger were transported to Mills Memorial Hospital for assessment.
  • A green 2013 Ford pickup truck and a Nechako plow truck were involved in a collision on Hampton Ave and Bohler St. The Ford sustained extensive damage and was towed. The plow truck sustained minor damage. The driver of the plow truck suffered minor injuries.
  • Shoplifter at Save On Foods. Police attended and observed an employee of Save On Foods removing a 48 yr old man from the store. Police located the shoplifter, a 50 yr old man inside of the store. He was intoxicated. The man was searched and a type of alcohol was found concealed on his person. While the shoplifter was being placed into the police car the 48 yr old man was observed accosting people in the parking lot. Police arrested him for public intoxication. En route to the detachment the 48 yr old man began to yell obscenities at the police. The 50 yr old man took exception and a yelling match ensued followed by a physical altercation. Both men were lodged till sober. No injuries.
  • Two men carrying a TV into Easy Home and it appeared that a man was carrying a gun in his back pocket. As police were walking towards the manager to speak with him a man was noted to have a suspicious looking lump in the back of his sweater above his right pocket. Police stopped the man and grabbed the lump, producing a black handgun style BB gun. The 18 yr old man stated that he was going shooting with his uncle after work. He agreed that carrying the gun in such a manner and right next door to a bank was not the best decision to make. The gun was kept for local destruction.
  • An SD card was found near the Scotiabank and turned into the detachment. The card contained video that has launched an animal cruelty investigation.
  • Police spoke with a 69 yr old man in a bus that he calls home, parked near the Rainbow Inn. The man was delusional and not making sense. He was not truthful with police when questioned about access to firearms. Police observed a 12 gauge shotgun with ammunition in a sleeve on the butt of the gun within reach of the front door of this bus. The man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act. Police seized the man’s firearms licence and five firearms, including a restricted weapon that was fully loaded and hidden in between blankets on the bed. Ongoing investigation.
  • Police observed a suspicious vehicle on Keefer St. When police activated the emergency equipment to pull the blue 1986 Chrysler New Yorker over the vehicle attempted to avoid then hide from police. The 33 yr old driver did not have a driver’s licence and the vehicle did not have insurance. The vehicle was towed and the licence plate seized.
  • Break and enter during the night of January 8/9 to Cooper’s Towing on Substation Ave. A window was smashed and an amount of money was stolen.
  • BC LP# CB 1681 was stolen from a vehicle while it was parked at the Tim Horton’s on Keith Ave on January 9.
  • Domestic dispute. Police observed the residence in disarray with a broken window, several broken dishes, and blood on the floor and walls. Police arrested a 22 yr old woman for assault with a weapon. A hidden knife was located and seized by police. Charges of assault with a weapon are being forwarded to Crown Counsel. A 24 yr old man was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for theft.
