Police continue search for lost explosives

Terrace RCMP continue to search for two boxes of dynamite which apparently fell off a transport truck on a rural road July 16.

MEMBERS OF the Terrace RCMP continue to search for two boxes of dynamite which apparently fell off a transport truck as it was traveling on a rural road July 16.

As of this morning, approximately 10 officers were walking both sides of a stretch of the West Kalum Forest Service Road in hopes of finding the explosives.

Three boxes of dynamite, each containing 15 sticks, fell off the truck belonging to explosives  manufacturer Orica Canada Inc. but one was subsequently found on the roadway.

The RCMP searchers include the commanding officer of the Terrace detachment.

The loss of the high explosives took place in the early afternoon of July 16.

The boxes are marked with the name Power ProTM.

Power Pro is nitroglycerin sensitized, extra gelatin dynamite formulated for use in surface and underground mining applications.

It can be initiated by extreme instances of shock, friction or mechanical impact and therefore, extremely dangerous and should be handled with care, warn the RCMP.

If the public comes across any boxes marked as described above, they are asked to leave the boxes where they are and immediately call the Terrace RCMP Detachment at 1-250-638-7400.

The transport truck belongs to Orica Canada Inc., a division of the multinational Orica Mining Services.
