Nathan Cullen and his family surrounded by supporters and the NDP convention.

When the NDP leadership began few people would have said that Nathan Cullen would have made it to the end of the leadership campaign, much less lasting through three rounds of voting at the convention. But he did, but now he has been eliminated, leaving only Thomas Mulcair and Brian Topp in the race.

After the third round of voting ended Thomas Mulcair fell short of claiming the leadership with 43.8 per cent of the vote, Brian Topp got 31.6 per cent and Cullen got 24.6, and because he came in third he was eliminated.

Now the only question that remains is: now that they can't vote for him any longer, who will Cullen's supporters make the leader of the NDP? If Cullen wants to he can endorse either of the two remaining candidates and his support base would be more than enough to guarantee the leadership to either Mulcair or Topp; effectively giving him the power to choose the next NDP leader if he wants to.

As this article is written, pressure is mounting on Cullen's Facebook page urging him to endorse one camp or the other, whether he will or not remains completely up to Cullen himself.
