A MAN who tried to run away from police in Thornhill will face drug charges.

Alvin Martin Tremblay, who is known to police, faces charges of possessing marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

On Feb. 1, officers were speaking to a man at the corner of Hwy 37 and Substation Road around midnight when they detected a strong odour of marijuana on him and exited their vehicle to investigate further, said police in an earlier press release.

The man bolted, police chased him, caught up to him and arrested him by Kickstart Motors.

Officers found two half-pound vacuum sealed packages of marijuana after the arrest, said police.

The man had attempted to dispose of the packages during the officers' pursuit of him, said police.

He is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 21.
