Highway crash claims one life

Jan. 7 accident took place on Hwy16 between Terrace and Prince Rupert

 

A 27-year-old man from Prince Rupert lost his life in a motor vehicle crash on Hwy16 West yesterday afternoon, report Terrace RCMP.

Police were called to the incident at approximately 3 p.m. at the 104 km mark on Hwy16 West. A Honda Civic travelling westbound lost control and collided head on with an empty dual axel gravel truck travelling east bound.

The 27-year-old was a passenger in the Honda and was deceased on scene.

The 31-year-old driver of the Honda, also from Prince Rupert, was transported to Mills Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

The 58-year-old driver of the gravel truck was transported to Mills Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Police say road conditions at the time were snow covered and slippery.

The accident closed Hwy16 between Terrace and Prince Rupert and the highway was re-opened at 9:45 p.m. last night.
