The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine will be able to get flood mitigation money from the provincial government and feds and only have to put one-third of the cost in itself.
A total of $75,477 is the eligible cost to pay for Dutch Valley Upstream Bank Stabilization and Erosion Protection project that the provincial and federal governments will pay $50,318 for, leaving the regional district to come up with the remaining money.
The money comes from the Building Canada Fund and the Provincial-Territorial Base Fund.
The regional district is one of 26 communities to get a share of the money for flood mitigation projects, chosen from applications from local government or dike authority that offered cost-effective solutions for areas at risk.
