Fallen tree knocks out power to Stewart, Aiyansh

A POWER outage affecting Stewart, Aiyansh and other small communities is expected to be back on April 26, according to BC Hydro.

A POWER outage affecting Stewart, Aiyansh and other small communities is expected to be back on tomorrow afternoon, April 26, according to BC Hydro.

Two transmission towers have gone down due to a falling tree on the Skeena-Aiyansh line, leaving about 1,600 customers without power, reported BC Hydro late this afternoon.

For safety reasons, the 138 kilovolt transmission line, approximately 14 kilometres north of Terrace, has been de-energized and BC Hydro crews are on-site.

There are no safety risks to the public as all measures to ensure safety and environmental due diligence are being followed, says BC Hydro.

Two new wooden transmission towers will be erected.

Additional crews and resources will be arriving later today and tomorrow morning from Terrace, Prince George, and the Lower Mainland.

Information will be updated as it becomes available at www.bchydro.com/media.
