Passengers aboard one of Hawkair's flights to Terrace had a bit of a scare as the plane had to make an emergency landing at Vancouver International Airport.

The Dash-8 left Vancouver at 2:45pm on Sunday July 14, but shortly after take off the pilots were alerted to an “indication,” Jay Dilley, president of Hawkair explained.

Dilley explained it was a mechanical issue reported with the number two engine, which forced the pilots to execute an emergency landing, something he said is standard protocol.

An announcement was made to the 46 passengers on board that they would be returning to YVR.

Maintenance crews looked at the indicator and determined a faulty tech signal, Dilley said.

“The crews handled it extremely professionally,” Dilley said and is pleased with how the situation was handled.

“All around, non-event.”

On a flight that normally takes two hours, passengers were in their seats for several additional hours but eventually landed in Terrace that evening.
