Former trustee will add management skills
AFTER MORE than a decade away, former Terrace trustee Roger Leclerc is running for a seat on the Coast Mountains school board.
Leclerc said if elected he plans to work with the current board to find out where the district is at, and find out what role he can play.
He has a strong back ground in management, having been involved in management-type occupations for 30-plus years, such as the Terrace Community Futures, and the Kitimat Valley Institute.
“I can serve a purpose, I’ve got some attributes I can contribute,” Leclerc said, noting that he has worked on the post-secondary side of education as well.
Leclerc has also served on the Catholic school board, and currently sits on the board for the Terrace library, the Northwest science and innovation council and is involved on a provincial advisory committee for the Industry Training Authority (ITA).
The ITA currently works with secondary schools across the province, including Terrace, to get students going on trades education while still in high school.
He said his previous time on the board had some challenges, such as the amalgamation of the Terrace and Kitimat school districts.
However Leclerc said the job as a trustee has its rewards as well.
“I’ve always had a love of education.”
Leclerc was nominated by Damian Keating and Christine Slanz.
