Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen says he is being kept safe this morning in the wake of the Parliament Hill shootings.

His voice at a pitch not much higher that a whisper, Cullen said by phone shorty after 9 a.m. that he “essentially” hiding out right now as the whole capital city rides out fears of other gunmen on the hill.

He described the situation as “very” tense.

Cullen also said via Twitter that “an hour later and 200+ MPs and dozens of reporters would have been in hall where shooting took place.”

A release from his constituency office says that Cullen’s and other MP’s constituency offices will be closed today “in accordance with security directives from Ottawa.”

The closure applies to Cullen’s offices in Prince Rupert, Terrace and Smithers.

“Our Ottawa staff are currently in lockdown in our Centre Block offices. Nathan is safely in lockdown elsewhere,” says the release.
