NORTHWEST COMMUNITY College now says it needs to cut more than 30 positions to balance its budget.

Faced with a deficit of at least $1.6 million, college president Denise Henning last month warned employees that layoffs need to take place.

In a press release this morning, the college said the 31.49 positions will be cut across its coverage area.

“Over the next two weeks, Consultation Committees comprised of union leadership and administration¬†will meet to consider alternatives to individual layoffs and explore possible options,” said this morning’s release.

The union that represents mostly the college’s university credit courses has already filed a request with the provincial Labour Relations Board to stop any layoffs pending more information on the college’s financial picture.
