City issues ban on lawn and garden sprinkling

Hot weather means extreme demand placed on Terrace water distribution system. Watering plants by hand still okay, says city.

A watering ban has been issued by the city in response to high demand kindled by an ongoing heat wave.

The ban applies to lawn and garden sprinkling only, and is directed to Terrace residents and those on the Terrace water system in north Terrace and on Brauns Island.

"Residents are being directed to limit watering by hand only and to conserve water usage in general," reads a release from the city.

City staff are currently patrolling the streets to ensure residents are respecting the outdoor sprinkling ban.

"A violation of the city’s outdoor sprinkling ban could lead to a fine of $100," says the release.

The ban is in effect until further notice.
