Aiyansh, Stewart expected to have power restored this evening

About 1,600 residents in Aiyansh, Stewart and surrounding communities have been without power since yesterday afternoon.

AIYANSH, STEWART and small communities in the area could have the power back on by suppertime.

Approximately 1,600 customers in communities served by BC Hydro’s Skeena-Aiyansh transmission line are expected to have the power restored by 6 p.m. tonight, said BC Hydro in a release.

Two new wooden transmission towers are being erected and the transmission line restrung, continued the release.

The line will be energized later this afternoon and power line technicians are on standby to get power back as quickly and safely as possible to all customers, said BC Hydro.

For safety reasons, the transmission line was immediately de-energized after a tree falling on the 138 kilovolt transmission line brought down two transmission towers yesterday.

The towers are located approximately 14 kilometres north of Terrace.

All measures to ensure safety and environmental due diligence are being followed. There are no safety risks to the public.
