Terrace forest fire crew dispatched to Nass
Terrace firefighters are currently battling a 50-hectare fire in the Nass valley that is burning in a vacant forestry cutblock.
The Terrace Firebirds unit crew comprised of 20 members, as well as an initial attack crew of three, are tending to the fire which they say is under control and not a threat.
“The crews are on the ground but we are feeling confident that we will have fairly high success on the fire. We are in there with pumps and hose working to contain it and mop it up,” said Wildfire Management Branch spokesperson Suzanne Pearce.
The dry spring weather before all the leaves have flushed and wet vegetation come in has meant that some areas in the Northwest including the Nass are experiencing moderate fire risk.
“We're still in that early smaller window of dry and high fire danger and typically through June we see some rains come and greens come out and fire danger go down,” said Pearce.
