Crews work on levelling crossing
CN crews are working to level out the rail crossing at Kenney St. just south of Hwy 16 today, the second of two days for the crossing to be closed to traffic and pedestrians.
Several workers and machines are on-site and will be installing concrete panels to run parallel with the tracks, making it much smoother for vehicle and bicycle tires to cross.
The panels are similar to the ones installed on Hwy 16 at an old set of tracks running from CN's mainline across the highway to the Skeena Sawmills location just west of the Hwy16 and Hwy113 intersection.
"CN Rail has agreed to install the panels at their cost, the city will be responsible for the remaining tie-in works. Under the crossing agreement for the site, the city is responsible for maintenance of the road at the crossing," said city public works director Rob Schibli last week.
