Airplane with mechanical issues lands safely
A Hawkair flight that returned to Terrace for mechanical issues landed safely April 7.
The Terrace RCMP, Terrace and Thornhill Fire Departments, and BC Ambulance were called as a precautionary measure and were on standby for Hawkair flight 113, reported Terrace RCMP.
"The aircraft has been inspected and the identified issue is being addressed prior to the aircraft returning to service," said Jay Dilley, president Hawkair Aviation.
Flight BH113 left Terrace at 1:30 p.m. April 7 and was en route to Vancouver.
Shortly after takeoff, the flight crew identified a mechanical issue and decided to return to Terrace to have it inspected, said police in a release.
There were 16 passengers and three crew members on board the aircraft and it landed without incident.
The flight crew showed professional judgement and followed company procedures by advising Vancouver Centre and the Flight Services Station of the return.
Hawkair and airport employees were also on hand to assist.
The response was well coordinated as a result of multi-agency emergency preparedness training.
"This is to ensure everyone is prepared for circumstances like this," says Carman Hendry, Terrace airport manager.
