Hazelton RCMP investigate suspicious fire at gas bar

Hazelton RCMP are asking for the public's help to find whoever started what police call a suspicious fire at the Kispiox Gas Bar in the early morning hours of March 27.

"The fire appears to have started on the outside north side of the building where a pile of wood had been placed. The gas pumps were not affected by the fire but the building and all contents have been destroyed," said Cpl. Wenda Leask.

A witness stated that he had been called at home by an individual who was responding to an alarm at the Gas Bar building and noticed the fire, said police.

Fire departments from Kispiox and Glen Vowell were in attendance and did an incredible job of keeping the fire away from the gas pumps, said Leask.

Fire crews will remain on scene to ensure no further flare ups.

If anyone witnessed the fire or any suspicious persons around the gas bar prior to the fire, please contact the New Hazelton RCMP at 250-842-5244 or contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
