Power back on for thousands of Northwest residents
BC Hydro restored power to residents of Stewart, Meziadin and the Nass Valley at 3:03 p.m. Feb. 15 who had been without power for four days.
A transmission tower had fallen over Feb. 11, cutting off power in the late afternoon to thousands of northwestern BC residents.
The power company sent nine workers plus equipment and supplies by helicopter to replace the tower on Valentine's Day but snow and wind grounded flying for most of the day at the remote location above Lava Lake, just south of the Nass Valley and about 70km north of Terrace, BC Hydro said that afternoon.
It's still not known why the 55-foot high steel tower had toppled; the wooden replacement is 70 feet high.
Bad weather Feb. 11 initially hampered efforts to identify the problem.
