New x-ray machine installed at Terrace hospital
A STATE-of-the-art X-ray machine at Mills Memorial Hospital is up and running.
Manufactured by Carestream Health, the machine takes the hospital into the digital age with technicians now being able to review an image immediately after it is taken.
The imaging portion itself is mounted on a ceiling gliding system so that it can either be moved into position by hand or by remote control.
The cost of the machine and of renovating a room in the imaging department of Mills cost approximately $400,000.
Costs were divided 60 per cent between the Northern Health Authority and 40 per cent by the North West Regional Hospital District, a regional taxation authority.
In addition to better image quality, technicians can now see more patients each day and more easily transfer images to physicians, specialists or other health care professionals.
Patients are also exposed to less radiation.
The Prince George University Hospital also has an X-ray machine of this kind.
