Police ask drivers to slow down
New Hazelton RCMP responded to a total of 59 calls during the week of Oct. 25 to Oct. 31.
On October 25, a break and enter was reported at a residence on Wolf St in Gitwangak. Information suggests entry to the residence was gained a week prior to being reported. A wedding dress among other items were damaged by the suspect(s).
On October 25, at 7 pm a hit and run accident occurred in the parking lot of McDonald's Grocery. A pick up truck backed into a parked vehicle and fled the scene. Police are seeking witnesses.
On October 29, at 9 am a Ford pickup was proceeding south on Hwy 37 approx 15 kms north of Hwy 16. The driver lost control of the vehicle and it entered the ditch. The driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
On October 31, at 6 pm, RCMP stopped a vehicle on River Rd in Hazelton. The driver was determined to be impaired by alcohol. During the arrest, the male attempted to fight police but was safely taken into custody. The driver received a driving suspension, a vehicle impound and charges are pending.
New Hazelton RCMP are reminding drivers to slow down and drive with added caution during winter conditions.
