Shoppers workers reject owner's offer
Workers from one local Shoppers Drug Mart are continuing their strike after rejecting an offer from the store's owner last week.
The strike began May 1, 2012 and has continued while the United Food and Commercial Workers Union 1518 representing the store's employees have been pushing for pay raises in Terrace similar to rates negotiated in B.C.'s Lower Mainland.
After two days of talks between a committee from the UFCW 1518 and store owner Barb Rea finished here July 5, 85 per cent of employees rejected the offer put forth by Rea, said a UFCW statement released July 6.
"No further talks have been scheduled," said the release.
Rea declined comment after last week's failed negotiations.
Talks were scheduled after Rea had invited workers to the negotiating table in a letter posted at the store late June.
Workers picketing outside the store July 9 declined to comment.
