Update: Hwy37 open again
CREWS have cleared a section of Hwy37 near Stewart closed because of a slide yesterday.
The slide consisted of ice and snow and traffic.
The highway had been closed in both directions from Stewart B.C. to Meziadin Junction with no estimated re-opening time announced yet. No detour is available.
The 8:30 a.m. avalanche on June 11 covered 120 metres of HWY 37A and was a result of ice sliding off the George Copper Glacier which is about 25 km east of Stewart, according to transportation ministry district manager Carl Lutz.
Avalanche technicians were at the location in additition to work crews to ensure the area was safe.
