Dog tags become permanent

WHEN YOU go pick up your new dog tag from the city, it will be your last.

The city announced in its pet licence renewal notices that this year's tags are permanent ones.

“The new dog licence(s) you will be receiving is now your permanent dog licence,” the notice reads.

“If the dog licence is lost at any time, please contact the animal shelter or city hall and a new licence will be issued.

“Pet licence renewal notices will continue to be mailed each year – please ensure that you continue to pay for your pet's licence annually.”

Up until this year, new dog licence tags were given out each year.

A city staff member said that was because people moved around so it was just easier to give out new tags each year.

The city reminds dog owners that the new tags will not be mailed out if payment for them is sent through the mail.

That's because the tags are too bulky for the mail and must be picked up at the city animal shelter or city hall.
