Police enforce traffic laws in school zones
POLICE KEPT drivers in line with a campaign to remind them to slow down in school zones.
For the first week of the school year, Terrace traffic officers and the Crime Reduction Unit, or street crew, issued 11 written warnings in two days.
During the second week, 24 tickets and two non-speed-related violations were issued, and one warrant was executed.
Officers also gave out several Motor Vehicle Act warnings.
Skeena Junior Secondary school zone had the most speed violations and Uplands was a close second, said police.
Drivers should be aware that most school zones in the city are also playground zones, meaning 30km/h is the speed limit seven days a week from dawn until dusk.
The goal of the campaign for its first week was to educate and remind people of school zones now that school is back in and to enforce speed zones in the second week.
