Motorists drove safely on long weekend
THE RCMP North District West Traffic Services, also known as the highway patrol, is pleased to report no serious accidents over the Labour Day weekend.
While police were out in force on area provincial highways, they issued 89 violation tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act, six violation tickets under the Liquor Control Licensing Act, along with one seven-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) and three 90-day IRPs.
Traffic members also laid six charges under the Criminal Code, including driving while prohibited and arrested another individual on an outstanding warrant.
In two separate traffic stops, police also seized a small quantity of marijuana.
The RCMP remind motorists that as part of September's Road Safety Campaign, police will be strictly enforcing the use of seatbelts and ensuring drivers are not using electronic devices while driving.
And with students back to school, police also remind motorists to pay
particular attention in school zones (30km/h) and to watch for pedestrians.
