BC Hydro signs power line contract
BC Hydro has signed the major construction contract for its Northwest Transmission Line.
Valard Construction, a Quanta Services company, and Burns & McDonnell will design and build the 344km line from the Skeena Substation near Terrace to Bob Quinn on Hwy37 North.
The companies are responsible for the design, materials procurement and overall construction of
the transmission line.
Construction work started this year leading to an end of Dec. 2013 completion.
The line will stimulate the development of several ore bodies by providing stable power.
It will also transmit power to the provincial grid to be generated from the Forrest Kerr run of river project owned by AltaGas. It is located on the Iskut River.
Valard and Burns and McDonnell were chosen from a shortlist of companies.
They've been heavily involved in the line's development even prior to the official design and construction contract being signed.
