Dogs maul girl

ONE DOG was destroyed last week and another one is to suffer the same fate after they attacked and injured a child to the extent she required surgery.

The two bull mastiffs, who belonged to the child’s family, bit the four-year-old child as she was playing outside of the family home Jan. 18, said police. The dogs, who were in a separate enclosure, caused injury to her arm and head when they pulled her arm and torso through a fence.

Paramedics rushed the child to Mills Memorial Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery before being flown to Vancouver for further treatment. The dogs were surrendered by their owner. Police plan no further action. The property is also the location of a day care centre.
