YEARS OF effort is recognized tomorrow with the official opening of an extension to the Howe Creek Trail.
The Howe Creek Tree Park, on the bottom of Lanfear Hill, is the result of work done by the Greater Terrace Beautification Society to bring together the city, community groups and the public sector.
At one time a tree nursery owned by Otto Grundmann, the land for the extension was obtained by the city in a land swap.
A substantial portion of the physical work was made possible through a federal program providing work for laid off forestry workers.
The trail extension was engineered for wheelchair access.
The official opening takes place 2 pm May 14 and refreshments will be served.
"This park is a wonderful addition to the Howe Creek trail system and honours our community’s beautiful setting as well as the site’s history as a plant nursery," says Val Parr from the beautification society.
