JACK COOK School held a Japanese lunch this past Tuesday to raise money for the people hit by the earthquake in Japan. That's Shaun Hawkes

STUDENTS AT Jack Cook enjoyed homemade Japanese food this past Tuesday as a fundraiser for those affected by the earthquake in Japan.

The meal cost $5 per person and about $200 was raised.

A parent, who had lived in Sendai, Japan and knew people there, came up with the idea for the lunch fundraiser, said principal Renee Syvret.

Sendai is a city close to the epicentre of the earthquake, which measured a magnitude of 8.9 when it hit March 11.

Students helped prepare part of the meal and parents were invited to come eat lunch with their children.
