STUDENTS AT Suwilaawks Community School took time out from studying to celebrate Vasaikhi, an ancient harvest festival in the Punjab region that also marks the beginning of a new solar year, and new harvest season.
The assembly in the gym, in which many dancers performed, was organized by the children and their families, said principal Karen Scales, about the April 14 afternoon event.
The women made pakora for everyone in the school, which was a big hit, said Scales.
“I was so impressed by the music and dancing. And also the fact the families all came out dressed in traditional outfits. The women were all stunning,” said Scales.
“It was clearly a special event.”
